The Lil' Public School In The Country
Yes.......so I live in the MIDDLE of nowhere! My daily entertainment consists of watching about 16 wild turkeys trot their way back and forth through my front yard. Did you know that turkeys do not walk side by side? Nope, not one of them, they walk in a perfectly straight line....... I have to laugh everytime I see this because it's so comical! What's not comical is the school situation here in the "back woods"........ Okay, so I'm gonna warn you but I'm setting out on a full Monday's rant and rave! As I've mentioned in earlier posts, my son was delirious and decided to take Latin I, against my better judgement and given advice. The whole thing that bothered me wasn't so much that he was taking Latin but that his school has been unable to get a Latin Teacher for several years now so these kids (it has dwindled down to 4 students now) are stuck in a room with what is referred to by the school as a "warm body" in case they need help turning on the computer or printing something out. Other than that it is up to them to keep up with an online Latin course...... so it's been like a roller coaster so far this year in my son's motivation to complete the work without an actual teacher standing over his shoulder... He did learn his lesson after the first few weeks when he thought he had all the time in the world to complete his lessons but instead he ended up behind and with a failing grade. After much hustle to catch up, he has brought the grade up to an A/B average which I'm perfectly content with........ However, here's the real kicker...... as if that's not bad enough, we find out today about another teacher/class situation... Daniel has been in Odyssey since 2nd grade, well once you enter 7th and 8th grade, it becomes Advanced Language so yes, it's like a shock to the kids because they spend so many years learning new and different FUN things then BAM the really hard work hits you! Anyways, Daniel's heart just hasn't been in it this year although he really doesn't have a choice about the matter except to deal with it but alot of it was his Teacher........ Now before I offend anyone here, please know that I have the utmost respect for anyone who becomes a Teacher, but as I was saying it all started on the 1st day of school when he came home to me and announced that his teacher acted like class was the last place that she wanted to be and he found it very hard to enjoy the class. He would describe her as just "BLAH"... Now I don't encourage this but I've met her and I have to agree with the description. Anyways 2 weeks ago he came home with a letter from the school stating that she had resigned to take a different job and a new teacher would be starting today.. Well Daniel insists he has to get to school early today because he really wanted to go by and meet her so he could wish her a good 1st day (awwwwwwwwww how sweet) seriously, I think he just wanted a head's up to what he was up against for that class. I felt badly for him when he came home from school today and announced that she had called the school a half an hour before she was due in and stated that she had decided not to take the position so now the kids in this class are left with a substitute until they are able to find someone else........... and we think that kids are irrational!

It is soooooooo important for kids to feel comfortable with their teachers. I have learned that my children don't do as well in their classes if they teacher sucks. LOL!
That is totally insane! I hope they find someone soon. So many teacher education programs here you would think they wouldn't have a problem finding someone. They must pay miserably.
